Apply to blog from the field

Going overseas to live, work, teach, volunteer or study? Interested in sharing your experiences with people considering doing something similar? Apply to blog about your time abroad as a featured blogger on the Verge Magazine website.

From the Field Bloggers

Verge Magazine is looking for meaningful travellers who are willing to contribute a regular blog during their time abroad. Positions are unpaid and require a significant commitment—a minimum of one update every three weeks. However, bloggers receive the opportunity to work with a professional editor, build their portfolio and have their stories shared with the Verge community.

The aim of these blogs is to provide insight into the actual experience of going abroad for a placement – taking that great leap into unknown territory, with all the excitement and the challenges that come with it. Blogs are most effective if they are personal and anecdotal (tell us your stories!) but still disciplined. You should have a point in mind and a message to communicate in each entry.

To apply to blog during your time abroad, please first confirm you meet the following eligibility requirements:

• You must be living, working, studying or volunteering overseas. (We are not looking for blogs about extended vacations or long-term travel, unless you can explain how it is “with purpose.”)
• You must be preparing for a trip or currently overseas.
• As bloggers are expected to submit a minimum of six guest blog posts, travellers who will be overseas for three months or longer are preferred.
• You must be willing to contribute a minimum of one to two blog posts per month for the entire duration of your journey.
• The content you submit must be original and not previously published elsewhere, including on personal blogs or websites.

If you meet these requirements, please get in touch by sending an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., with the subject line clearly marked as "blogger application." In your email please include:

• your name and a brief bio
• a description of where you will be going overseas and what you will be doing
• the name of the organization who will be sending you or hosting you (as applicable)
• your departure date and length of stay
• a sample of your writing or link to personal blog, if available
• your Twitter handle or relevant social media
• reasons for your interest in blogging for Verge

Thanks for your interest and happy travels!
