WorldTeach: WorldTeach Volunteer
As a WorldTeach volunteer teacher, teachers will witness firsthand the challenges and rewards of education in a developing country. Teachers will share the skills and knowledge gained through their education and life experience with students who have not had the same advantages. They will gain cultural understanding and the ability to work independently in a new environment. Volunteers will have a role in the community, and an opportunity to learn about the local culture and contribute to community life and development. And volunteers will develop key skills--including teaching, language, cross-cultural communication, and leadership--that will be useful in any career.
WorldTeach is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that provides opportunities for individuals to make a meaningful contribution to international education by living and working as volunteer teachers in developing countries. WorldTeach was founded by a group of Harvard students in 1986, in response to the need for educational assistance in developing countries. Based at the Center for International Development at Harvard University, WorldTeach offers the benefits of a well-established volunteer organization, while also providing more comprehensive, personalized support and training as a small NGO.
