Each of our carefully selected volunteer sites in East Africa; Uganda, Malawi and Ethiopia, are located next to conservation areas (national parks) and our volunteers are positively integrated into the welcoming rural communities working across a range of well-researched high-impact projects aimed at supporting the conservation and development goals of the local area. 

What will I be doing?

As a Big Beyond volunteer you'll work across a range of exciting and fascinating projects. All our volunteer placements are tailored to individual skills and interests, as well as the needs of the local community at that time. Our volunteers can choose to build their skills in a particular field or alternatively concentrate in a particular project category such as conservation, education, culture, health or enterprise.

Our current volunteer placements in Africa include, but are not limited to: Community Enterprise, Health & Wellbeing, Events Management, Marketing, Arts & Drama, Community Research & Mapping, Sports & Fitness, Community Farming, Teaching, Wildlife & Environment, Kids & Rural Schools, IT Education, Tribal Craft and Culture, Cultures of Bwindi and Women's Economic Empowerment. The local communities where we work are trying to build pride in the protection of their neighbouring natural world and also benefit from its conservation through raised awareness, tourism, income, quality education, improved agricultural practices, a healthier environment and in general, promoting better and more enjoyable ways of life.

This is the chance to take your knowledge, experience and energy to people and places that genuinely value your contribution, but it's also a great way for you to learn just as much as you give, explore lesser known corners of the world, gain unique insight by truly immersing in another culture, build memories of a lifetime, and be inspired about new possibilities.
